I love things that are old and beautiful, and tell a story.

Ya, ya, ya, so she looks like a famous adorable actress — which in turn draws the comparisons to the “California Gurl”, but if you’re only stopping by to get a glimpse of her outside beauty, then you’re really underestimating this girls depth. Jessica is a photographing fiend, shooting everything in front of her. She has a firm understanding of proper framing, she captures movement and action gracefully — look for her image of a guy swinging from a tree into a lake, and she even documents real moments of strangers perfectly, instituting her a savvy street photographer. Quite the resume right? She’s got it all. And one of my favorite qualities about her feed is her #tunestuesday theme. She’s a music maniac, constantly expanding her knowledge and sharing that with her followers. If you adore music, relish in this girls musical charisma. But on top of it all, admire what her eye deems beautiful, I certainly have, and I’ve been lucky ever since. Thanks Jessica!

IT: TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

Jessica: Heeey ok! I’m 30 years old, also know as an awesome age to be.  I grew up loving music, selling things, and surrounded by creative energy.  My family is very similar, so I suppose that’s where my character developed…ex: age 4, I could be found front row at a James Brown concert w/ my dad.  Around age 6, traveled door-2-door in my grandma’s neighborhood selling flowers and plants out of a red wagon that she and I grew, and around age 12, I started helping my mom out at her hair salon and was instantly a friend to many colorful, creative people! ;)

So, being a lover and creator of photography and photo-art, it somehow ties me to my childhood and my core.  My personality is candid. haa! Some days I’m quiet and lacking energy (but my mind is still a buzzing three star hotel…*thanks @NTNL for that lyric*).  Other days, I like to be very social and grab drinks w/ friends and celebrate life in general.  (I’m a Gemini, June 4…we are a little goofy/strange I suppose).

I love the lyrics for Fleet Foxes song, “Helplessness Blues.”  It starts out, “I was raised up believing I was somehow unique. Like a snowflake distinct among snowflakes, unique in each way you can see…” That’s how I want my babies to feel about themselves one day (omg I said babies…like plural. haaa! That’s new).

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN ON INSTAGRAM?

I joined at the end of October 2010.

HOW ARE YOU INSPIRED?

I’m inspired by my emotions…I use creativity as an outlet.  If I’m stressed out, I know a good long session in front of the laptop w/ all the right editing apps and such will chill me out.  Takes my mind off anything that needs to be OFF.  I clock out. ;)

I am also greatly inspired by pretty, antique, elegant looking photography w/ jewel tones and pastels.  If you must see for yourself what absolutely set me off to la-la land recently…go pick up October 2011 Vogue and check out the portraits of Michelle Williams done by the INCREDIBLE Anne Leibovitz. I will recreate that as soon as I have a chance. :) And, I will add my flare. haha!

HOW HAS INSTAGRAM CHANGED YOUR DAILY LIFE?

This will make someone laugh…Instagram has made me a kinder spirited person.  I haven’t had so many days in a row ever before that I “like” and give praise to hundreds of people.  It’s so overwhelming at times, but in a good way.  I feel a sense of elation! I’m giving out little love bites all day to people that I don’t even know!!

I’m now able to share feelings of joy and happiness with hundreds of people.  I’ve come to know people in Japan, and what their pet’s name is, and I’ve gone to the vet with them on my lunch break…:)  I’ve watch a wedding unfold thru my iphone screen…big moments of peoples lives that puts any Hallmark commercial to shame.  And, on another positive note, Instagram has strengthened my confidence and has opened the door to exposure of my photography.  I never in my life thought I’d show off all my photos to the world at the rate and speed that I do.  I am now doing little art shows in my town, and I’ve opened up a wide variety of websites hosting my images.

Creativity takes confidence.  I have recognized my strengths in art more and I’m able to run with my passion daily, instead of saving it up for a rainy day.
Creative juices flowin' all hours of the day and night!

ANY INSTAGRAM PET PEEVES?

I don’t want to hurt anyones feelings, but I really do not like when people comment on a pic saying, “follow me…” and I go check out their feed and it’s all random stuff they found on Tumblr or google images (like the rude sayings: “b***h, I never loved you”) hahaa I’m like,”oh my gosh, save it for a text message or whatever you do with that crap.  Why on earth would I ever want to follow that junk?  I want to see you use that anger you have over your ex in your photography…show us how youre coping, or what makes you smile.

I love original work that shows feelings and is thought provoking!  Another pet-peeve, nakedness..LOL from time to time, a studio quality figure form is beautiful to appreciate, but I really dislike seeing girls post a million pics of themselves over and over again in the bathroom, car, in their underwear, or laid out on the floor like your waiting for some dude to come over.  Good grief.
Missing one...I filled it *The Black Keys*
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THOSE YOU FOLLOW?

I definitely have a big love for people who have a new style that they create or are exceptionally great at classic photography (black and whites/landscapes/macros/portraits).  If you go thru my list of people I follow, you’ll find some of the most creative, “unique like a snowflake”, loving people.

WHAT MUSICIANS SPEAK TO YOU?

Well, I wish they’d call me already…geez!  But, while I wait for their call, I hear their sweet lyrics and heartstring pulling lyrics thru my speakers.  The sounds of: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Black Keys, Feist, Radiohead, The Walkmen, Bon Iver (although I can’t really understand some of his lyrics, I do love the sounds), The National (brilliant lyrics), and what really hits me are the old soul/motown music classics: Al Green, Marvin, Aretha, James Brown, and Etta James.
